Italian Wine Travel Guide 2024 - Find Memorable Wine Tours and Winery Tastings in Italy
One of the most interesting wine regions in Italy is undoubtedly Tuscany. If we leave wine aside for a moment, Tuscany - with Florence in the lead - is one of the main destinations for tourists and holidaymakers. And rightly so, I think. We've been in this beautiful region for several times. Because anyone who has visited Florence, Siena or Lucca will remember Italy as a top destination and will return regularly. A very interesting culture, many sights, great weather and delicious food and drinks.
Let's return to the wine. Tuscany is also a top destination for wine lovers. The map below shows the most important wine regions. Handy for planning your next vacation or wine trip. So that you know exactly where to look for the best locations to spend the night being close to everything you favor.
Those who travel to Tuscany to taste wines have plenty of choice. The most important wine regions in Tuscany are:
On the map below you can see that the wine regions are located approximately between
Florence (north),
Arezzo (east),
Montalcino (south) and
San Gimignano (west). The famous wine region around
Bolgheri falls just outside this area and is located on the Tuscan east coast. And there is another small area of Chianti to the left of San Gimignano.

The beautiful Chianti wine region requires a little further explanation. Where people talk about the Chianti region, they generally mean the most original area of the Chianti Classico. This area is located roughly between Florence and Siena and can therefore easily be combined with visits to both cities.
In addition to the mentioned Chianti Classico area, there are several subzones where the famous Chianti DOCG wines are made. You can see this clearly on the two maps below. For the exact names of all subzones, I refer you to the Chianti page.
